Join PULSE Fellows, alumni, board, nonprofit partners and neighborhood residents as PULSE fellows “pitch” their ideas for small, community-based projects throughout Pittsburgh.

Fellows have 5-7 mins to “Pitch” their idea. A panel of judges and audience will have an opportunity to vote for where funding will be distributed. Amounts of up to $1,000 will be made available to provide immediate support for projects.

The PULSE Pitch is a program for PULSE fellows to share ideas for small-scale community-based projects in Pittsburgh neighborhoods. Through PULSE Pitch and the PULSE Fellow Fund, fellows are coached to effectively plan, communicate, implement and evaluate their community-based project.

The PULSE Pitch is an opportunity for PULSE fellows to communicate community-based projects to a wide variety of constituents (fellows, alumni, board, residents, friends, the general public)

Tuesday, November 29th is Giving Tuesday!

On Tuesday, November 29th, 2016 you have the chance to join people across the country in celebrating generosity by participating in Giving Tuesday.

In addition, an anonymous donor has offered an additional $1000 in matching money:

  • $50 match for every new monthly donor ($10 minimum)
  • $25 match for every new donor to PULSE ($25 minimum)
  • $10 match for every donor who tweets #PULSEGivingTuesday and #GivingTuesday after they give

PULSE is excited to welcome a new group of 35 participants for the 2016-17 year. Hailing from 13 states and 4 countries, the young adults serving with PULSE next year bring an exciting mix of talents and interests to the table. Their investment in service and community, as well as the vast array of experiences and passions they represent, are only a few of the incredible things they have to offer Pittsburgh and its residents. You can read about them and their accomplishments here.





PULSE is pleased to announce the hiring of Cathy Blanchard. Cathy began serving as PULSE’s Office Administrator on August 9, 2016.

As Office Administrator, Cathy oversees operations of the PULSE office; including office administration, maintaining financial records and procedures, and supporting fundraising efforts.

Cathy Blanchard’s heart is in helping youth achieve their fullest potential, and she has devoted time and energy to mentoring and training youth. From tutoring reading and math programs to teaching young people essential skills and abilities, she sought to ignite determination and self confidence so they take ownership of their future. Most recently Ms. Blanchard functioned as Entrepreneuring Youth‘s chief program director, leading organization-wide initiatives to strengthen the youth entrepreneurship program’s impact and growth. Ms. Blanchard has extensive experience as a volunteer with community organizations and as an executive in the insurance industry. Throughout her insurance career she is credited with leading numerous business units to greater profitability by increasing customer value and team efficiency. Ms. Blanchard earned a B.S. in Accounting from Geneva College and a Masters in Library Science from the University of Pittsburgh. Through her career experiences she has developed a proficiency with operations management and administrative effectiveness. She is looking forward to contributing to the success of the youth as they explore, discover and engage in serving the Pittsburgh communities.
