It’s been amazing to have this new experience where I am going into new neighborhoods and they still feel like home. It’s a feeling of “you want to be here”. People walking down the street are nice to you, and it feels like a community wherever you go. I feel like myself here.
I love the flexibility of the PULSE experience. I love the openness of the staff that are here to support us throughout the year. I also love the freedom to do whatever I’d like to do to get to know my community, neighborhood and self.
In living on the Northside and through self-exploration exercises, I have learned more about my weaknesses and how to address them
It has been wonderful to live in community. Even when we disagree with each other, it’s been really cool to be very respectful of each other, to act out of a deep caring for each other.
The best part of the PULSE experience is being able to transition into the professional world with other young adults going through the same experience.
I work with a really awesome staff! They are great, talented, creative people who I know have my back. I also enjoy the opportunity to work with Northside kids and feel like I make an impact on their lives.
I also just really love the environment of Habitat for Humanity –everyone is really friendly and welcoming and open to new ideas. I’m having a fantastic time.
I can’t quite imagine how different life would have been without PULSE. The past two years have been the best “after college” decision for me. I’ve grown as an individual and young professional because of the people around this program; supervisors, housemates, alum and neighbors.
It’s impossible for me to name all the ways I’ve been impacted by PULSE. I’ve discovered passions, personally and professionally. I’ve made life-long friends. I’ve been given the opportunity to serve, take ownership of projects and gain job experience. But most importantly, PULSE has instilled in me a sense of self-confidence and the knowledge that I can and will make a difference in Pittsburgh.
