Marketing and Communications Coordinator

Position Summary: The Marketing and Communications Coordinator reports to the Executive Director of PULSE and is responsible for the organization’s consistent, high-quality execution of its communication and marketing efforts with the community.

The Marketing and Communications Coordinator coordinates all aspects of PULSE’s communication and marketing efforts, including newsletters and other print publications; web, e-news, social media and other online communications; media and public relations; and marketing.

Job Responsibilities

Below is an overview of responsibilities and duties for this position:

Marketing and Communications

  1. Develop, implement, and evaluate an annual communication plan across PULSE’s four stakeholders (young adults, nonprofits, neighborhood residents and donors) in collaboration with the PULSE team.
  2. Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic media including, but not limited to, newsletters, brochures, and PULSE’s website.
  3. Generate online content that engages various stakeholders and leads to measurable action. Decide who, where, and when to disseminate information.
  4. Coordinate the maintenance and development of the PULSE website and social media outlets (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) , ensuring that new and consistent information (article links, stories, and events) are posted regularly
  5. Track, report, and evaluate communication efforts through qualitative and quantitative (Google Analytics, Social Media) measures.
  6. Act as a brand steward ensuring consistence of message through online, print and public communication.
  7. Responsible for editorial direction, design, production and distribution of all print and electronic media including material appearance (letterhead, logo, brochures, etc.)
  8. Create marketing/public relations strategy that will allow PULSE to cultivate and enhance meaningful relationships with targeted, high-level external audiences, including the media and key influencers.
  9. Actively engage, cultivate and manage press relationships to ensure coverage surrounding PULSE programs, special events, public announcements, and other projects.
  10. Develop short and long-term plans and budgets for communications and marketing and its activities, monitor progress, assure adherence and evaluate performance.
  11. Create and manage special PULSE events, such as the annual PULSEations fundraising event that includes managing the timeline, working with outside vendors, tracking and reporting data (ticket sales, attendance, sponsorships, auction, etc.), mailings, volunteer recruitment and management.
  12. Develop relationships and an active network with other communication and marketing peers, particularly in the nonprofit sector, to aid in PULSE’s position in the community and sector.
  13. Keep abreast of developments in the fields of communication and marketing (both nonprofit and for-profit) and use information to help PULSE operate with initiative and innovation.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, Preferably in communications, marketing, business
  • 1-3 years of experience in communications, outreach, program management, etc.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and multitask
  • Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Acrobat Pro, Photography, Video Editing a plus
  • Proficiency with Google Apps (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Sites, Forms, Groups, Admin, Adwords, Analytics, Hangouts), WordPress, Mailchimp, Box, CiviCRM, Hootsuite, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIN, Youtube a plus
  • Knowledge of Pittsburgh nonprofit sector
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends
