The YWCA Greater Pittsburgh is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. With efforts reaching back more than 100 years, the organization has a long-standing history of recognizing and meeting community needs. YWCA programs help to change and better the lives of women and girls throughout greater Pittsburgh.
Rachel Gingrich serves as the current PULSE fellow with the YWCA, working on a variety of projects such as creating and promoting posts for social media to designing flyers and annual reports.
Ellen Sheppard, Development Officer for the YWCA, discusses the YWCA’s partnership with PULSE.
ET: Why did your organization decide to work with PULSE?
ES: We attended the orientation session last year and were initially impressed with the organized, thoughtful approach PULSE uses to select and match their participants with organizations.
ET: What is the most rewarding part of working with PULSE?
ES: The most rewarding part of working with PULSE is watching our fellow experience the personal and professional reward of knowing that she has made a positive difference toward helping us realize our mission.
ET: How has your partnership with PULSE impacted your organization?
ES: Our partnership with PULSE has given us much-needed additional capacity to execute our responsibilities.
ET: What would you tell other Pittsburgh nonprofits about PULSE?
ES: If you are looking for a well-run, effective, fellowship experience for your organization, PULSE is for you.
ET: What do you like most about your current fellow and/or other fellows you’ve worked with?
ES: We love the positive, can-do attitude that our PULSE fellow brings each and every day to her job responsibilities. Rachel is eager to learn and to contribute to our productivity in any way that she can — whether it is pulling together a week’s worth of tweets or coordinating the production of a corporate annual report!
