Markeya comes to PULSE with over ten years of experience with a variety of local social service and nonprofit organizations. Through this work, she has worn many hats, including as a therapist, housing coordinator, women’s resource coordinator, and case manager, among others.
Through this work, Markeya has managed others, including interns and AmeriCorps members and shared that she enjoys working with people who are recently out of college because of the openness and willingness they tend to bring to their work. She notes that while college gives book experience, she enjoys working with people to help them gain life experience.
We asked Markeya what drew her to PULSE and she states that our mission “aligns with my purpose in life, which is to serve. To help other individuals understand the importance of service and to expose them to the great work nonprofits do within our city, it seemed like the perfect fit.”
Markeya was born and raised in Pittsburgh, and has been dedicated to helping serve others since she was a young girl. After obtaining her BA in Sociology from California University of PA, she went on to spend over 10 years in social services. She has served populations in the community ranging from children to older adults tackling the issues of re-entry, homelessness, drug and alcohol addiction, and mental health.
Markeya began her role January 4, 2021. We are excited to welcome Markeya to PULSE and are looking forward to her sharing her skills and talents; please join us in welcoming her!
