Maryem grew up in the Greater Pittsburgh area and attended Chatham University. She started
volunteering at a young age and continues to serve her community. Maryem has a passion for
public service as demonstrated by her experience with service programs and supporting
nonprofits. She has served with KEYS Service Corps, PULSE (2017-18), and the US Peace Corps.
She served as an AmeriCorps member (for 3 terms!) at Crossroads Foundation and Reading Is
FUNdamental (RIF) Pittsburgh, as a PULSE Fellow with The Women and Girls Foundation, and
Youth Development Volunteer with Peace Corps Morocco. She enjoys many elements of self-
care including crafting, baking, face masks, Bollywood movies, playing board games, women’s
empowerment, catching up with friends, and convincing people to dine at Salem Halal Market
and Grill in the Strip District!
Maryem is excited to join the PULSE team and assist with recruiting future Fellows to serve with
PULSE and nonprofit partners. Pittsburgh has a unique pull in Maryem’s life, and she is happy to
be able to support Fellows and friends during current epidemics. She lives with PULSE alumni
(and close friends) in Garfield.
