Tanya Shirazi

Recruiting and Program Coordinator

Tanya was born and raised in Los Angeles. She holds a B.A in History from UCLA and an M.S. in Counseling Psychology from Mount St. Mary’s University, Los Angeles. From 2011-2017 she worked for UCLA BruinCorps Tutoring Program, where she supported efforts to grow the program from 80 to 150 undergraduate tutors.

Tanya moved in 2017 to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in order to pursue her passion for writing. She is a Writing MFA candidate at the University of Pittsburgh where she has previously taught English composition and creative writing courses. Currently, she serves as Managing Editor for Aster(ix) journal, a transnational feminist literary art journal committed to social justice and translation that places BIPOC writers at the center of the conversation. She is completing her first novel.

After living in Pittsburgh for three years, Tanya is eager to join the PULSE team as Recruitment and Program Coordinator. She is excited to create transformative experiences for university graduates invested in community engagement efforts through nonprofit work in the city.
